The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is asking Catholics to contact their Members of Congress and encourage them to include the Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA) (H.R. 833/S. 292) in budget reconciliation.
The ECCA provides students with opportunities for scholarships which can fund tuition, tutoring, special needs services, homeschool materials, educational technology, and more. These scholarships would be funded with private donations, not federal dollars, and donors would receive a federal tax credit. The ECCA does not create a new federal education program, nor does it compel states to create a new program.
Catholic teaching clearly states parents are their child’s first teachers—and the government has a duty to help parents select the educational environment of their choice (CCC 2229). Passing the ECCA will give millions of parents in all 50 states the ability to choose the best educational environment for their children.
Urge your Member of Congress to maintain the ECCA’s most important provisions:
- $10 billion in annual credits for individual and corporate giving
- 100% credit on the donation by the taxpayer
Maintaining these provisions in the ECCA is crucial to ensuring that the greatest number of children benefit from educational opportunity.
Join the USCCB in asking your Member of Congress to support including the ECCA in budget reconciliation. To learn more, read the USCCB Committee on Catholic Education Chairman Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M.’s letter in support of the ECCA.
