USCCB Urges Federal Government to Protect Preborn Children in Proposed Infertility Insurance System

July 10, 2026

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is asking Catholics to tell the federal government to reject coverage of in vitro fertilization (IVF) from a proposed insurance system for infertility, which could lead to the death of thousands of preborn babies.

The government is proposing a new, optional insurance system for the treatment of infertility. This system includes coverage for IVF – which kills or freezes even more preborn children than abortion. Infertility can be a heartbreaking experience for many couples and they deserve both pastoral and medical support, but IVF is not the solution.

There is a chance IVF could be removed from the proposal, while keeping the opportunity for improved coverage of real health care that aims to heal the underlying, root causes of couples’ infertility.

Please join the USCCB in taking action and sending a message by the government’s public comment deadline of Monday, July 13.
