USCCB Urges Senate to Help Protect Pregnant Students and their Children

January 23, 2026

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is asking Catholics to contact their Senators and urge them to pass the Pregnant Students’ Rights Act (S.3627/H.R.6359)

Many young women in college are under the impression that abortion is the only option that will allow them to continue their education and build a successful life, if they become pregnant. The bill ensures that colleges and universities readily provide information to their students on the rights, accommodations, resources, and services available to them to help them carry their baby to term and succeed as parenting students. This life-saving information would be easily available at orientations, health and counseling centers, on websites, and through emails each semester. Students do not have to choose between the life of their child and pursuing the life of their dreams.

On Thursday, the House of Representatives passed the Pregnant Students’ Rights Act. Now it’s time for the Senate to take up the bill, which is expected next week. You can read the bishops’ letter of support for the legislation here.

With thousands visiting the nation’s capital to take part in the annual March for Life, now is the time to voice your support for legislation that helps young women find the support for a bright future for both themselves and their children. To contact your senators, click below:
