USCCB Urges U.S. Senate to Fight Hunger
May 11, 2026
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is asking Catholics to contact their U.S. Senators and ask them to protect and improve hunger-reducing programs in the Farm Bill.
The U.S. House of Representatives has passed its version of the 2026 Farm Bill (theFarm, Food and National Security Act of 2026), which continued key international food security and nutrition programs. But the Farm Bill fell short here at home, failing to do enough to protect and strengthen the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, the nation’s largest anti-hunger program.
Hunger is a daily reality for families around the world—and for many families in the United States. Programs like SNAP are crucial because they are a tangible way we can live out the call of the Gospel in Matthew 25:35, “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me.” Compassion, solidarity, and care for vulnerable people should remain at the heart of the Farm Bill.
The decisions Congress makes in the Farm Bill will shape whether millions of children and parents can put food on the table. With the bill moving to the Senate, now is a critical time to speak up. As people of faith, you can use your Catholic voice to urge your Senators to protect and improve hunger-reducing programs in the Farm Bill—here at home and around the world.
